BEHIND THE GLASS: EDDIE COMPO

  • subtitle: Virginia Beach, VA

Tuesday, 6/10/14

Cameras: Canon for life, baby.

Three favorite photographers: Seth Stafford, Chris Burkard, and Scott Soens.

Most inspiring photo: It’s got to be one from Wave Warriors Surf Camp. A veteran that lost both his legs and half of one of his arms was having the time of his life riding wave after wave when his son came out to join him. They started sharing waves and you could tell all their hardships and worries washed away. An immensely powerful moment to witness and capture.

Favorite subject: Day-to-day life with my friends. I’ve been blessed with a tight-knit crew of guys that are always doing cool shit. Surfing, diving, fishing, hunting… every day is a new adventure and I love to tell our story.

Favorite place to shoot: There’s no place like home. Virginia is filled with amazing locales hardly anyone knows/cares about.

Favorite subject besides surfing: People.

Other occupation if any: Weddings and portraits.

Valuable lesson: Go outdoors.

Film or digital: Both. There’s a sense of craft behind shooting film, but most of the time it’s gotta be digital.

First photo ever published: ESM circa ‘05! A black-and-white image of First Street Jetty in VB going off.
