The Manasquan Boardriders Club is hosting the 9th Annual Soft Board Rodeo Surfing Contest

on Friday, July 19th, at the Manasquan Inlet Surfing Beach. This contest is for the GROMS!!

MRBC Softboard Rodeo is for the fippin’ groms! Eva Doyle 2023 winner of the 6 and Under division .

The MBRC, with guidance from VP Mike Brown, developed this family fun day at the surfing

beach for the kids is already in its ninth year. The divisions are based on age and combine both

boys and girls into the contest. The entry is on-line https://liveheats.com/MBRC and open until

it fills up, which happens pretty fast.

Not macking by any stretch but how perfect could these conditions be for groms to compete in? Heck, for anybody to compete in this time of the year on the East Coast ?

The 6 Divisions are: 6 years and under / 7 & 8 Years old / 9 & 10 Years old / 11 & 12 years

old / 13 & 14 years old and lastly, 15 & 16 years old.

Each kid receives a contest T-Shirt, a free Italian Ice ( courtesy of Barewires Surf ) and a pizza

lunch ( courtesy of Brave New World / Manasquan ). The event starts at 8AM and runs through

a good portion of the day with many families staying into the evening.

The contest format is unique – Once a heat starts the kids have to run 50 yards from the

boardwalk to the waters edge to grab a Soft Board from a tangled pile of boards and paddle

out. The mayhem is part of the entertainment. The kids all use “soft-top” boards as these are

soft all-around and have flexible fins. The parents support the younger divisions as they may

push the little kids into waves.

Surfers are judged in a relaxed format of style, dexterity and finally, STOKE. Winners receive

swag from our sponsors which include Cor Surf, Finless

Skateboards, and Doyle Surfboards.

The Manasquan Boardriders Club is a local non-profit club

comprised of local surfers to Manasquan Inlet and all have

honed their surfing at this storied break.

The club takes all proceeds from this and the Manasquan Classic Longboard to

fund other non-profits who support the town ( and surfers) at large.

Sea of bikes on Riverside Drive, Manasquan Inlet. This is how the locals do it on the Jersey Shore in Summer, leave the freakin cars at home and the good luck finding a parking spot nightmare for the Bennies to deal with.
